Vom Hause Ajartodar sets out to redefine the rottweiler breed for the African continent and keep it abreast with contemporary world standards.
We had initially bred a handful of litters since the year 2000 under the 'Ajartodar' prefix. However, our initial breeding program was executed with less understanding of the breed and naturally we were unable to get anywhere near the goals we had set for ourselves. Any hope of consistency in the temperament, conformation and health status we envisaged were squashed by breeding with dogs of diverse background/ancestry with precious little avenue for the genes to interact in a homogeneous fashion. We also found that strictly speaking, all around Africa, the story of Rottweiler breeding was not very different. We procured breeding stock from some of the most experienced breeders on the continent (some who have been involved with the breed since the early seventies) but were very disappointed with the outputs. In the end, we determined that our goals, mission and vision were never going to be realised by breeding with these dogs. We could see that the number one factor against consistently perpetuating fine examples of the breed in Africa is what we refer to as the 'Improvement Syndrome' where breeding partners were assigned to 'improve' one another based mostly on phenotype or at best riotous genotype. Judging by the scores of African pedigrees that we have examined, it would appear that the kinds of 'breeding' that have been carried out in the continent have been prosecuted by isolatedly importing outstanding rottweilers with the hope that, a single outstanding specimen will wield his type in a far-reaching manner, over many generations. Unfortunately the rottweilers he's coming to 'improve' have been bred from a cocktail-ancestry design. Consequently, his influence is quickly diluted into oblivion, save for some occasional genetic freaks. Indeed, borrowing the words of a collegue, rottweilers were merely being "assembled and produced" rather than being bred; a sure recipe for watering down the breed. Our interractions with many breeders from cultures with a more conscientious, scientific and rigorous approach suggest that few breeds, let alone the rottweiler, may be properly bred in this manner. As we set out with our own program, we are very mindful of these issues and subsequently very committed to importing only rotties that we think can interract homogeneously in a breeding program. Vom Hause Ajartodar takes the pilot seat in rejuvenating the breed in our continent by employing only dogs of ADRK/Eastern Europe heritage, in a highly discriminate/selective breeding design. Please, read our breeding goals, mission and vision. Greetings, |
